Those tiny pests can quickly multiply, too. As soon as one ant appears in your home, it won’t be long until they’re everywhere. Although most ants are harmful, they can carry different species of bacteria that have the potential to cause problems for humans.

Luckily, there are lots of safe and easy ways that you can kill ants quickly in your home. You don’t always need to call a professional but if the ant infestation is unmanageable using the methods mentioned in this article, you might need to contact a professional pest control company.

Here are five safe ways to kill ants in and around your home.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Essential oils can be unpleasant and potentially toxic to ants. Peppermint essential oil is particularly effective.

Mix some peppermint oil with water and spray it onto ant colonies. Alternatively, you can soak some cotton wool balls with the oil and leave them around your home.

Vinegar

Vinegar is great at getting rid of ants. Grab a spray bottle and fill it up to halfway with vinegar. For the rest of the bottle with water and give it a good shake. Spray the solution directly onto the ants and their colonies.

Wait a few minutes before using some paper towels to wipe up the dead ants. Keep the vinegar spray bottles near to the areas where the ant colonies tend to reside so that you can quickly kill any insects when they appear.

Cinnamon

Believe it or not, cinnamon is toxic to ants. When they inhale cinnamon particles, they are unable to breathe properly and this causes them to suffocate.

Get the ground cinnamon from your kitchen cupboard and sprinkle a little near to the ant colonies in your home. In just a few minutes, you will start to see the cinnamon taking effect.

You can also use cinnamon essential oils if you don’t have ground cinnamon. Mix some cinnamon essential oils with water in a spray bottle. Apply the oil mixture near ant colonies, windows, doors, and cracks in your flooring.

Brewed Coffee Grounds

Brewed coffee grounds can be sprinkled over any colonies or near doorways and windows in your home to deter and kill them. You will need to change the coffee grounds daily to ensure they maintain their potency.

Neem Oil

Neem oil is a natural insecticide that can be used in your garden or in your home to kill ants. The compounds in the neem oil are poisonous to ants and aphids.

Mix some neem oil with a small amount of water in a spray bottle and apply it to the affected areas of your home. Try not to dilute the neem oil too much as this will significantly decrease its potency.
