Affordable Bathroom Upgrades

1. Give Your Vanity a Makeover

You don’t have to buy a new vanity. You can just give the existing one a makeover (assuming that it’s in good condition). For example, you can give it a fresh coat of paint.

Not only that, but you can replace the hardware and faucet. For example, you can get something like this.

2. Refinish Your Bathtub

Refinish your bathtub instead of replacing it. Start by sanding the surface. Fill in any scratched, worn, or chipped areas before sanding smooth.

Apply 2-3 coats of primer and let it dry. Next, apply 3-4 layers of a top-coat mixture. Let it cure before buffing the coating as applicable.

3. Repaint the Interior

Consider repainting the walls. Chances are, you’ll only have a few square feet to paint as the majority of the space will be taken up by mirrors, tiles, cabinets, and bathtubs.

Tip: Avoid using low-quality roller covers as they can leave fuzz and lint behind.

4. Replace the Light Fixtures

Replace your outdated light fixtures with something new. For example, you can add some glass accents. If you want, you can even hang a small chandelier in the bathroom.

5. Swap Out Your Shower Fixtures

Swap out your old shower fixtures and install new ones. For example, you can install a handheld sprayer—that will make things like taking a bath much more convenient.

Or if you want, you can just swap out your showerhead for a newer model.

6. Add Some Storage Space

There are various ways that you can add storage space. For example, you can install a small medicine cabinet above the bathroom sink.

You can also hang basket shelves or organizers, both of which require minimal effort.

7. Conceal the Curtain Rod

You can keep the shower-curtain hardware out of sight by installing a track on the ceiling. If anything, it’ll make the room feel loftier.

You don’t have to buy a new shower curtain either. You can easily fashion one from a canvas or burlap drop cloth.
