Moving To A New Place: Important Tips For A Perfect Design
Last updated on January 3rd, 2022
People moving to a new place often have a hard time deciding what kind of design they want. When you move into a new house or apartment, the entire space becomes yours to do as you please – and this can be both exciting and frightening at the same time.
You must know what your preferences are before starting any type of decoration because it will make everything much easier. But, making sure to follow tips should help guide your decision-making process.
Make a Plan
Before settling in your new home, make sure to make an overview of each room, where each piece of the furniture goes, and consider buying some new items. Sometimes the apartment might have some furniture already about which, if you don’t like or want them, you should speak to your Sydney removalists, as they might know someone who wants to buy them, or you can donate it to a good cause. Wherever you live, removalist pros will take care of it so you don’t have to think about where to take it.
The design should be well thought out and planned beforehand, as this will make you save money & time once the move is over. Why? Because you’re in a perfect position to start from the base, as you have empty walls and space in front of you.
Show Your Creativity
The new environment is an opportunity to design your home as you like. Take advantage of the empty walls and display your favorite pictures, paintings, mirror, posters, and everything you like. This will make the place feel as it’s yours, and makes it easier for you to get used to it.
If you’re not afraid of a little construction work, then go for it – you can save some money if you decide to do some parts of the job yourself. You can start with small projects such as replacing doors or putting up shelves or maybe do a little bit of wall painting, it can be fun and rewarding.
Bathrooms are another area where you could do some alone work, for example by adding new shower curtains, mats, or storage units to make it look cleaner and tidier.
Think About The Lighting
Put the lights on, turn them off and move them until you find the perfect light for each room. If you don’t want to spend too much time with decoration, install LED lighting because its advanced technology offers many advantages: it requires less energy than traditional lighting (even low power consumption), doesn’t heat rooms nor reduce humidity, emits bright white light which can be dimmed according to needs, enables setting the color temperature from warm tones till daylight colors; moreover, it lasts longer. Additionally, another advantage is that it’s recyclable and doesn’t contain mercury, a hazardous substance found in conventional lighting.
You can also add a couple of stylish lamps or add LED candles.
Flooring & Rugs
You can choose from a variety of flooring styles that suit your new home best: ceramic tiles, stone slabs, laminate floors or carpeted surfaces in case humidity is high. Carpet is easier to clean than other types of flooring so it stays fresh looking longer, but you have to take care not to wear out the pile because when this happens stains are visible more easily and harder to remove.
Wooden flooring is very beautiful but requires special treatment to last well over time. Laminate wood flooring is becoming more popular, as it’s easy to clean and doesn’t require much attention.
Bathroom & Kitchen Design
When planning the interior design of rooms where hygiene is an important factor (such as bathrooms and kitchens), you should consider using materials that are resistant to water damage; this doesn’t mean they should be completely waterproof, but rather allow water vapor to evaporate quickly. Be careful with floor coverings for bathrooms, too: opt for the right tiles or other surfaces which do not absorb water.
The kitchen can be decorated either according to a classic style or modern one; go for the latter if you like the look of stainless steel appliances instead of normal white ones. Considering that there’s a lot of cooking involved in homes with kitchens, you can take precautions by choosing hard floors to make cleaning easier.
Whenever you move to a new home, especially if it’s the first time you’re doing that in your life, then this is an opportunity to feel what it’s like being surrounded by things that are just for you. Let your creativity flow freely and order something nice from an interior decoration company or ask friends who have moved into their own houses before to advise on how they did it. Some people prefer classical designs while others go for modern ones so plan what you want in each room. The place should reflect who you are!
