Are you getting ready to move to your new home? Moving is exciting, but the moving process itself is a pain.
As moving day approaches, how are you supposed to get everything together? What do you need to do? We’re here to talk about it.
Keep reading to learn all about how to prepare for a move.
1. The Packing Process
Before you start moving, you need to pack your entire life into some boxes and vans. How can you get started when there’s so much to do?
Start with decluttering. You’re going to have to pick and choose what items are coming with you and which ones have to stay behind. Keep in mind that depending on how far you’re moving, it might be more cost-effective to get new furniture at your destination.
Go through all of your clothing and items to determine what you actually use. It’s hard to let go of your favorite objects, but if they’re no longer used to you, you’ll feel better about the lack of clutter when you get to your new home.
Pack things in boxes based on the rooms that they belong in. This makes it far easier to unpack everything quickly. If you have fragile objects, wrap them in linen as a cheap and eco-friendly protective measure.
2. Gather Your Important Documents
One of the top things that you don’t want to forget on your move is your important documents. This is especially important if you’re moving far away and your documents are in a local safety deposit box.
You’re going to want to find any deeds or titles, birth certificates, social security cards, and any other identifying information.
3. Get Help
Why would you try to move alone? Unless you’re moving a few belongings from one apartment to another, you’re going to need help.
If you have heavy furniture, for example, there’s no reason to not have someone help you. Whether you need to get help moving your piano, your couch, or even heavy boxes, don’t strain yourself. Get a professional moving company or find a few kind friends.
4. What to Bring With You
Don’t get carried away when you’re trying to figure out how to pack for a move. It’s tempting to throw everything in boxes and throw them in the moving van, but if you do this, you’ll find yourself struggling while you’re traveling and when you get to your destination.
Moving vans often don’t get to the destination before you do. If this is a big move, you’re going to arrive with nothing and you may have days to wait before your things arrive.
You want to bring several changes of clothes, toiletries, documents, and something to sleep on (unless you’re buying new beds when you arrive at your destination).
Are You Ready for Moving Day?
With moving day on the horizon, how ready are you? Make sure that you have all of your important items together, your boxes packed, and your necessities stored in your car for the trip. You’re ready to journey to your new home!
