Home renovations are extremely popular right now. After a year and a half at home, many of us are tired of looking at the same four walls. If you’re feeling the same, maybe it’s time to freshen things up with a new renovation or interior style. However, home renovations can also be expensive, and the pandemic left many Brits strapped for cash. Fortunately, there are plenty of smaller renovations you can do to refresh your space without breaking the bank.

SGS engineering surveyed 1,000 homeowners and found that nearly half are looking to renovate one room in their house. The kitchen and bathroom were the most popular rooms to renovate, closely followed by a home office conversion project. The pandemic changed the way we use our homes and each room needs to be multifunctional to cater to being stuck in our houses more, especially your bathroom. With what we’ve been through these past couple of years, the bathroom should be your little haven of relaxation to shut out the stress of everyday life.

No feeling one hundred per cent happy with your bathroom? Here are a few ideas for renovating it on a budget.

Refreshing Your Bathroom on a Budget

Freshen up the sealant

Bathrooms tend to show wear and tear far more quickly than other rooms in your house. Humid conditions take their toll on décor, and you may need to renovate your bathroom sooner than you hoped. Start by redoing the sealant around the bath and sink to prevent any leakages and remove any stubborn stains and mould.

Change the colour of tile grout

Grout becomes mouldy and discoloured very easily – and it has a big impact on the appearance of your bathroom. Discoloured grout can quickly make your tiles look grubby. Find a high-quality grout that will withstand the test of time, and elevate your tiling. Black and gold grout will add a modern touch to your bathroom and make it look brand new.

Replace shower curtains

Shower curtains are a breeding ground for bacteria. You should replace the curtain every six months and clean it in between. Mould and mildew can build up – especially if you don’t wash it monthly. You should also replace your bath mats from time to time for a softer feel. Plus,  if you’re looking for easy ways to switch up your bathroom’s aesthetic, you can shop around for shower curtains and bath mats of varying colours and designs.

Add artwork and plants

A plain white bathroom looks super fresh and clean at first. However, after a while, it can start to feel bland. Add a piece of artwork and a few plants to give your bathroom some character. You could hang a bunch of eucalyptus above your shower to fill the room with a relaxing, spa-like aroma.

Hang a mirror

If your bathroom doesn’t have a lot of natural light, use a mirror to open up the space. A large mirror will reflect light and make the room appear larger. It’s also convenient for doing your makeup and styling your hair.
