The bathroom is one of the most important and used rooms in your home. It’s the one room that should relax you after a hard day, because of this designing a bathroom can be a challenge.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or upgrading your existing bathroom, here are some of our top tips for creating the perfect bathroom.
Start with a budget
Bathrooms can be done for cheap or they can cost you thousands. Top-end showers alone can go from £15,000+ so having a budget in mind will help you to get the most out of your bathroom design.
Your budget doesn’t have to be set in stone but it will help you to keep your costs down.
Use lighting correctly
Your bathroom should create a calming space for you and your family. You can create a calming mood with the design of your room by using lighting to your advantage. Mirrors with lights, wall sconces, and LED lighting in the ceiling can all add to the atmosphere.
Storage space in your home is something most of us need. The bathroom is a no different room. In your bathroom, you may have soaps, shampoos, body washes, and a range of other cleaning products. You’re also going to have towels, robes, bath mats, and potentially kid’s toys too. All of these items can make your bathroom look cluttered.
To cut down on this clutter you are going to need places to store them. After all, you can’t have a relaxing bathroom when you have clutter everywhere.
To add storage to your bathroom purchase fixtures and fittings with inbuilt storage. You can get bathroom cabinets, mirrors, ottomans, and draws that all have inbuilt storage.
Make smart choices
If you have a small bathroom it doesn’t make any sense to fill it with large furniture. Instead, try to combine them to save space. Combination vanity units combine a toilet and a sink unit so they are more suitable for smaller bathrooms. Other furniture choices can be made too such as opting for a shower over a bath.
If space is limited you could also use vertical towel rails, they are both functional and space-saving at the same time.
Consider your flooring choices
There are a few different choices you can make when it comes to flooring, for us we would recommend using a slip-resistant tile. But there are also other options out there such as vinyl, stone, and laminate. Our advice would be to go to a tile showroom before purchasing any tiles and having a good look at all of the options available.
Look online for inspiration
There are so many options available when it comes to designing a bathroom it can be hard to match all of the styles together. If you are finding it hard to match the styles or you simply don’t know where to start you can browse online for inspiration.
If you want inspiration when designing a bathroom you can look to websites such as Pinterest and Instagram. Both websites have tonnes of inspiration on there so be sure to use them in your bathroom design. If you use Instagram look at hashtags that suit your home.
If you use Pinterest you can more than likely find others who have put together boards showing their favorite bathroom designs, from there you can add the ones you like to your inspiration folder.
Decide on what you need and what you would like
It’s easy enough to get distracted and start adding everything to the shopping basket, but that’s a quick way to blow through your budget. Instead, think of what you need and then work from there.
If you need a shower, look at all of the showers that work with your budget. Don’t run off and add a shower, a freestanding bath, and everything else. Take it slow and plan your bathroom restoration project so you have everything you need for your budget.
