Grinch Apple Kiwi Mocktail
Want a Christmas drink that looks ridiculously festive without turning into a whole project?
This bright green Grinch mocktail is cold, fizzy, fruity and just tart enough to keep it from tasting like liquid sweets.

I wanted this one to look properly green, not pale yellow with a sad sprig of mint pretending to be festive.
The apple and kiwi do most of the work here.
You get crisp apple first, then that slightly tangy kiwi flavour, a squeeze of lime and plenty of bubbles over ice.
And the red cherry on top is basically the whole Grinch colour scheme sorted in two seconds.
It’s a really easy one for Christmas parties, movie nights, brunch or any time you need a non-alcoholic drink that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
Ingredients
For the Mocktail
- 1 cup chilled green apple juice
- 1/2 cup kiwi syrup or well-strained kiwi puree
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 cup chilled lemon-lime soda or sparkling lemonade
- 1 to 2 tablespoons simple syrup, optional
- Plenty of ice
For the Glasses
- 1 kiwi, thinly sliced
- 1/2 green apple, thinly sliced
- Fresh mint
- 2 maraschino cherries
How to Make It
- Pour the green apple juice, kiwi syrup and lime juice into a small jug.
- Give it a stir and taste it before adding anything else.
- If your kiwi is quite sharp, add a little simple syrup. If the juice is already sweet, leave it alone.
- Fill two tall glasses generously with ice.
- Slide a few thin kiwi rounds and green apple slices down the sides of each glass.
- Divide the apple and kiwi mixture between the glasses.
- Top slowly with lemon-lime soda or sparkling lemonade.
- Give each glass one gentle stir.
- Add a good sprig of mint and finish with a bright red cherry.
- Serve straight away while everything is properly cold and fizzy.
If You’re Using Fresh Kiwi
Fresh kiwi works really well, but I wouldn’t just chuck it into the drink after blending.
The seeds and pulp make the whole thing look more like a smoothie.
Blend 3 peeled kiwis with a couple of tablespoons of water and a spoonful of sugar, then push it through a fine sieve.
What you want is the bright green liquid.
That gives you the kiwi flavour without turning the glass cloudy and thick.
How to Get That Really Bright Green Colour
This depends quite a bit on the juice and kiwi you use.
Some green apple juices are almost clear, while others have a much stronger green tint.
Kiwi syrup usually gives the brightest result.
If yours still looks a bit too pale, one tiny drop of green food colouring will sort it.
And I really do mean tiny.
You’re making a Grinch mocktail, not nuclear waste.
Don’t Skip the Lime
The lime is what keeps this drink tasting fresh.
Without it, apple juice, kiwi and soda can get sweet very quickly.
Two tablespoons gives it enough sharpness without making everyone pull a face after the first sip.
Taste it before serving and add another little squeeze if you prefer your drinks on the tangier side.
The Garnish Makes a Big Difference
For something this simple, the garnish does a lot.
Thin kiwi slices look great pressed against the inside of the glass.
A few green apple slices make it feel fresher and more generous.
Mint gives you a big hit of freshness before you even take a sip.
Then there’s the cherry.
That little bit of bright red against the green is what makes the whole thing instantly read Christmas.
Make It for a Party
You can easily make the base ahead.
Mix together:
- Green apple juice
- Kiwi syrup
- Lime juice
- Simple syrup, if using
Keep that chilled in the fridge.
Do not add the soda yet.
Once people are ready for drinks, fill the glasses with ice, pour in the green mixture and top with soda.
That way it stays fizzy instead of going flat while everyone is still deciding whether they want one.
Make It Less Sweet
Use sparkling water instead of lemon-lime soda.
You’ll still get the bubbles, but the apple and kiwi become much more noticeable.
You can also use half soda and half sparkling water if you want something in between.
That’s probably my favourite version if you’re serving it with food.
Make It Sweeter
Use sparkling lemonade and add the simple syrup.
This version works especially well for kids because it tastes more like a proper party drink.
Just taste it first because some bottled kiwi syrups are already very sweet.
What to Serve With It
This works really well with easy Christmas party food.
Try it with:
- Mini sandwiches
- Sausage rolls
- Christmas brunch boards
- Cheese and crackers
- Puff pastry bites
- Fruit platters
- Christmas cookies
- Mini pancakes or waffles
It’s especially nice alongside richer food because the lime and bubbles keep it feeling fresh.
Can I Make It Ahead?
Yes, just make the green base ahead rather than the entire drink.
Keep it covered in the fridge for up to a day.
Slice the apple close to serving so it doesn’t brown.
The kiwi can be sliced a little earlier and kept chilled.
Add the ice, soda, mint and cherry right before serving.
Q&A
Can I use normal apple juice?
Yes.
Green apple juice gives you a slightly sharper flavour, but regular apple juice still works.
You may just need a tiny bit more kiwi or lime to stop it tasting too sweet.
Can I use kiwi juice instead of syrup?
Definitely.
If it’s quite thin, you may need a little more of it for a stronger kiwi flavour.
Can I make this without food colouring?
Yes.
Kiwi syrup usually gives you enough colour on its own.
Food colouring is only useful if you want that really vivid Grinch green.
Can I make it in a pitcher?
Yes.
Mix the apple juice, kiwi and lime in a pitcher and chill it.
Add the soda right before serving.
Can kids have it?
Yes, it’s completely alcohol-free.
What can I use instead of maraschino cherries?
Fresh raspberries work well too.
You still get that red-and-green Christmas look.
Can I use frozen kiwi?
Yes, especially if you’re making puree.
Let it thaw first, blend it, then strain it well.
Final Thoughts
This is one of those Christmas drinks that looks much more impressive than the amount of work involved.
The colour is fun, the flavour is fresh, and you don’t need a cupboard full of random syrups you’ll never touch again.
Just apple, kiwi, lime, bubbles and a few nice garnishes.
Cold glass, plenty of ice, cherry on top.
Done.
