Okay, lets be real, the first time you bake anything, it can be a little daunting (trust me, we have all been there!), but it really doesnt have to be.

These chocolate chip cookies are definitely a great choice for beginner bakers!

There are no intricate tricks or steps, just easy-to-follow ingredients and a touch of love.

I also really like the versatility of this recipe—you can honestly whip up a batch any day, time, hour, or whatever you want!

And dont they smell absolutely incredible when you are baking them?! Baking for your friends, family, or even just for yourself, they check a lot of boxes!

Im going to show you that perfect balance of soft, chewy, chocolaty deliciousness you can make over and over again!

What You’ll Need:

● 1 cup soft unsalted butter

¾ cup granulated sugar

¾ cup packed brown sugar

● 2 large eggs

● 2 tsp vanilla

● 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

● 1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

● 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional: a little sea salt to sprinkle on top.

A Beginners Step-by-Step Process

➤ Gather Your Ingredients

Let’s bring everything out on the counter to stay organized: butter, sugar, eggs, flour, baking soda, salt, and chocolate chips, of course.

No need to overthink things.

I personally line everything up so I’m not scrambling at the end.

➤ Cream the Butter and Sugar

Either with a wooden spoon or a hand mixer (I use a hand mixeruse whatever you prefer).

Cream the butter and sugars until fluffy.

This is where the magic begins, and you can already smell the sweetness wafting through the air.

➤ Add in the Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, and take your time. You want it to be blended perfectly; there is a difference! And vanilla? The cookie whisperer.

➤ Mix in Dry Ingredients

Next, slowly mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt. You are simply folding it inyou wont mess it up. Soft cookies, not bricks!

Mix in the Chocolate Chips

Now dump the chips in, and fold them gently. Who doesnt like more chocolate? I like a little extra because life’s too short!

➤ Scoop onto Cookie Sheet

Use whatever you wanta spoon or cookie scoop.

You need to give them some space because they are going to spread while baking.

I usually do a little smaller scoop I think this helps them cook evenly.

Oven Time

Preheat the oven to 350°F/175°C, and bake for 10-12 minutes. Dont just set and forget. Watch them! The edges will be golden, and the center soft.

Allow to Cool

You can either let them cool or dig right in. And even if you don’t want to let them cool, I fully admit to just eating one right off the tray.

Make it Fun!

If you want to have a fun twist, sprinkle a little pinch of sea salt on top before baking.

You would not believe how much of a difference that makes, and it will make your cookies taste like they came from a bakery!!!

Share them (no judgement here).

As much fun as it is to eat the whole batch yourself, they taste better when you share with others!

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

1. Overmixing the Dough

The deal is, the more you mix, the more you develop gluten in the flour, which will make your cookie tough.

Mix until just combined, and then go about your day.

2. Incorrectly Measuring Flour

If you are directly scooping flour from the bag, thats a big mistake. You dont want too much flour in your cookies, that will cause them to be dry.

Give it a fluff with a spoon, then scoop into a measuring cup. Forgetting to Chill (If Required) Some recipes will tell to chill the dough.

It helps with texture and spreading. Trust me, whether waiting 15 minutes or 30, it pays off, like everything else.

3. Incorrect Baking Temperature

Ovens lie, seriously. Aim for around 350°F (175°C). Too hot, the outside edges will burn before the inner cookie cooks. Too low, you will get that flat cookie.

4. Not Giving the Cookies Enough Space

While the cookies are baking, they need space to spread. Too crowded tray = sad, squished dollop of cookie. Just give them a space so they can shine.
