Ground Beef and Gravy with Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

For the Ground Beef and Gravy:

● 1 lb ground beef

● 1 small onion, diced

● 2 garlic cloves, minced

● 2 medium carrots, diced small

● 1 cup frozen peas

● 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

● 1 1/2 cups beef broth

● 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

● 1/2 tsp soy sauce (optional, adds great depth)

● Salt and black pepper to taste

● 1 tbsp butter (optional, for a silky finish)

For the Mashed Potatoes:

● 2 lbs Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

● 1/4 cup butter

● 1/2 cup milk (add a splash more if needed)

● Salt and black pepper to taste

● 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional but makes them extra creamy)

Instructions

1. Start the Potatoes:

● Boil the potatoes in salted water until they’re fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes. (Don’t overdo it, or they’ll get waterlogged.)

2. Cook the Ground Beef:

● In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Break it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.

● Add the onion, garlic, and carrots. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. (Cut the carrots small so they cook quickly.)

3. Make the Gravy:

● Sprinkle the flour over the beef and veggies. Stir well to coat everything.

● Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer until it thickens, about 5 minutes.

● Stir in the peas and let them warm through for a minute or two. (No need to overcook; you want them to stay bright and tender.)

4. Mash the Potatoes:

● Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, and cream (if using). Mash until smooth.

● Season with salt and pepper. (If they seem dry, add a splash more milk.)

5. Bring It All Together:

● Serve the mashed potatoes as the base, topped with a generous scoop of ground beef and gravy.
