Kim Kardashian Rocks Her New Retro Bombshell Look

Kim Kardashian rocked the stage — and the internet — with her first-ever collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week. Since then, the 41-year-old model has demonstrated a titanic shift in her style choices, and she’s generously shared them across social media, instigating a viral interest in her latest look. She’s moving away from the futuristic and radical ensembles from Balenciaga, like those she donned for the Parisian fashion house’s autumn/winter 2022 campaign, in addition to its haute couture show in July.

Instead, Kardashian is wrapping herself in a nostalgic, old-Hollywood glamour, enhanced by her unique sensuality and modern aesthetic. She’s reinventing herself, reminding us what we love about Dolce & Gabbana, and pushing the company to explore new avenues while remaining true to itself.

Bond Girl Bombshell

In a recent Instagram post, Kardashian and her daughter North West wore new outfits from her Dolce & Gabbana collaboration, with designs hearkening back to styles from the enormous D&G archive. Dolce & Gabbana’s emphasis on clean lines, form-fitting shapes, and stark colors highlights the shape of the clothing and the wearer. Kardashian’s sexy, all-black ensemble here inspires comparison to the most glamorous bombshell, the original D&G Bond Girl, Monica Belluci.

Yet, despite the former D&G model’s inspiration, Kardashian maintains a style all her own; like her own version of an enigmatic, mature, alluring Bond girl, Kardashian teased her gorgeous figure with a paneled corset minidress covered with a gleaming satin overcoat. The sheer bodysuit rises to her throat, ending with a soft turtleneck of black lace.

Pointed-toe stilettos and shining satin opera gloves completed the glamorous look. It’s a going-out-look that bridges the complicated space between overtly sexual and marvelously sensual, a span Dolce & Gabbana has mastered and that Kardashian seems to understand.

Reinventing Retro

On the other hand, it’s hard to go wrong with animal print for straight-up seductive appeal, and Kardashian’s complete cheetah print ensemble from 2019 shows that she’s not exactly new to the vintage clothing scene. She sported the vivid ensemble on Instagram to instant acclaim, demonstrating that she has no problem blending fantastically retro patterns and brilliantly modern shapes.

It comprises a bodysuit, coat, lace-up boots, and leopard print gloves. Lounging cat-like on furniture seems just right for this ensemble; it’s an outfit made for prowling and purring, and the collaboration speaks well of the work that Kardashian and Dolce & Gabbana have done as of late.

Haute couture has its place as a space for creativity and extremes in fashion-as-art. Kardashian participates in the design process with a sharp eye for beauty and innovation. Meanwhile, the rest of us are watching and waiting to see what new ideas Kim Kardashian will share on social media as she continues her design work with the always-amazing Dolce & Gabbana fashion house.

Will we see more of these retro-bombshell looks from Kardashian and her team at Dolce & Gabbana? We can certainly hope so; her new looks offer a refreshing dip into the past, even as she propels D&G, and the wide world of fashion, into a vibrant and vivacious future.
