Colour Psychology in Interior Design: An Infographic

Color psychology is the theory that colors can impact how you feel, think, and act. For example, deep red hues are associated with passion and energy, whereas cool blue shades are considered calming and serene.

Consider your feelings when you walk into a dark room with darkly painted walls and heavy drapes making the room lacking light and contrast this with the moment you walk into a bright room, painted in light tones with lots of natural light – they are two very different feelings.

Yes, some people might prefer the darker tones and there is a place for those types of hues but striking a balance is possible when it comes to color themes.

Some people love to wear black clothes for example to give them a shield or confidence and similarly, sometimes it’s nice to walk into a dark room when you seek rest or privacy. It’s all about understanding what colors work in different types of rooms and making the most of a room’s layout and structure.

Textures are also an important consideration because the texture can add a lot of interest and depth to an otherwise “boring” color tone.

The interior of a home is a personal choice and really there should be no rules once the occupier is happy but there are some guidelines that people can follow in order to make the most of their existing space.

For example, someone living in a small space might need assistance to make more of the area they have.

The guys from EZ Living Interiors have put together this infographic below that outlines the aspects of how this can translate into your home. The infographic highlights the colors that might be suitable for different parts of your home depending on what you like yourself of course; it details some expert advice and finally, it explains the 60-30-10 rule for putting together a cohesive color scheme in the home.
