Remember when you wished the weekend could last forever? Well, be careful what you wish for! Life as we know it has been altered completely as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Whether we like it or not, staying in is the new going out with the social distancing rule currently in place. But, it doesn’t have to be painfully boring as there are lots of productive and fun things you can do when you’re bored at home, even if you live alone.
It is great to engage in something you enjoy in others to feel less anxious during these times. This is important for your mental health as well as physical health. Getting creative with your daily routine makes the days go quite fast and less daunting. Are you running out of ideas of things to do? Here are our top picks for fun things to do while you’re bored and stuck at home.
1. Redecorate your home
I know cleaning doesn’t sound like fun, but this is a good time to clean out and declutter your home. Sort out that messy drawer and organize your closet. Rearrange your furniture, and redecorate your home. Some people find repainting their room incredibly fun.
If your walls or furniture are worn out, consider repainting it. Remodel your kitchen or find projects around your house that interest you. Make your home feel more comfortable and stylish.
2. Cook/bake something delicious
You don’t need to be a pro chef to whip something up in the kitchen. You don’t even have to like cooking, just think of it as a creative project. Learn and new recipe online or try one from your cookbooks at home and perfect it! Make cute little cupcakes and get creative with decorating them. That bake scent in your home will definitely lighten your mood and make your tummy smile.
If you need some inspiration, watch the British Bake-off or Celebrity Bake-off TV show. However, if cooking is not an option for you, consider making a smoothie, milkshake, or mix up cocktail. Have fun mixing up different flavors and give it a fab name!
3. Binge-watch something on Netflix
Everyone loves Netflix! The hours will whizz by when you are binge-watching something really good on TV when you’re bored at home. It’s even more exciting now that they release amazing shows more frequently. Tiger King is the TV show everyone is watching now, and I have to say, it’s incredible! It is my new favorite true-crime documentary and quite absurd but that’s exactly what makes it brilliant.
If you like suspenseful series, consider seeing ‘Caliphate’ it is totally underrated! You’ll thank me later. Buy your favorite snacks and drinks, or make some homemade popcorn and catch up on your favorite TV shows.
4. Take a yoga/exercise class
Yoga is very effective for keeping you relaxed as it helps manage stress and anxiety. It is beneficial for every age group. Even if you have never done yoga before, there are so many tutorials on Youtube to help you get started. Also, consider starting a workout routine using YouTube videos. You can do burpees, squats, press-ups, and many more without any equipment. It works perfectly for me!
5. Escape with a book
Get lost in an adventure! Snuggling up with a book is a great way to stir up your imagination and escape from the confines of your house when you’re stuck at home. In this day in age, you can read a book in many ways. If you can’t be bothered to read, try an audiobook. Kindle is a great resource for audiobooks. 6. Play video games
Games are not just for kids alone. Pull out a classic video game you love and that brings those childhood memories, and play like it’s summer of 1998! Most video games are designed in such a way that you can play with people online- this is a great way to make new friends while kicking their asses.
7. Start a new hobby
Don’t let this time go to waste. Let your creative juices flow. Start a blog, a Youtube channel, or even a book. If you’re into music, write a song. You’ll be surprised how many artists have said that they got the inspiration for their hit songs from sheer boredom. Think of what you enjoy doing but can make you money or maybe fame from in the long-run.
8. Plan your next trip
Make a bucket travel list of places you want to explore after the lockdown. Look up historical places you want to visit, activities you’ll love to do, and of course, the food you’ll like to sample. Work out the financial cost of the trips and ask your friends if they would like to join you. Pinterest and Instagram are the perfect sources to find inspiration for the places that are worth visiting.
9. Have fun on TikTok
Everyone is a TikTok right now. It is taking the digital world by storm. TikTok a fun app that lets you create funny and amazing videos while being bored at home. It is definitely one place to see your favorite celebrities as goofy as ever. Not only are these videos fun to create, but they are also fun to watch. So grab on your headsets and enjoy the thrill from inspiring content creators.
10. Enjoy a long bubble bath
If you aren’t doing this already, you don’t know what you’re missing! This is a great way to relax your mind and your body when you’re bored at home. Take a long bubble bath with bath bombs, sea salts, bath oil, or whatever tickles your fancy. Do this while listening to great slow music. Scented candles? even better! A glass of wine? perfect!
